Using InteleView

What are the controls for moving around the globe?

The easiest way to move around the globe is to use your mouse.

Left button: Hold down the left mouse button while moving the mouse to rotate the globe.

Right button: Hold down the right mouse button while moving the mouse to change your angle of view. Moving the mouse up and down will change your angle to the ground (so you can look across the landscape). Moving it left and right will change your direction of view. Both of these are easiest to use when zoomed in.

Both buttons or the scroll wheel: If your mouse has a scroll wheel, you can use that to control your altitude (to zoom in and out). You can also hold down both mouse buttons and move the mouse forwards or backwards to do the same thing.

At any time you can press the space bar to reset your viewing angle, or press it twice to bring you back to your original position over the globe.

This looks pretty complex. How do I get started?

It might look complex when you first run InteleView, but once you start to navigate around the globe you should find the interface to be fairly intuitive. If you want a jumpstart, we have instructions for a quick walkthrough that should familiarize you with the interface, or you can watch one of the getting started videos.

Is there a way to save or share a particular view?

There are several! If you want a quick way to let someone else with inteleview see what you are seeing, use the Edit: Copy Coordinates to copy an Inteleview URI to your clipboard, which you can then paste in an email, or use as a link on a web page. Here is one that will take you to the city of Dakar, Senegal:

Now of course, the recipient might not have the same data permissions as you do, so you can only guarantee that they will be looking at the same part of the globe, not what data they will see there.

You can also generate an image of the current view at any time by choosing File: Save Screenshot. You will be prompted to enter a name and a location to save the file, after which you can send it in an email, put it on the web, or use it in a presentation!

There is also a movie recorder plug-in, which can be used to capture flybys and virtual tours, but its use is a little more complicated. For more information see the movie recorder tutorial.
