Intelesense to Collaborate with TATRC and NASA on Advanced Microsatellite Technology

07-20-06 -- Milpitas -- Intelesense TechnologiesTM announced a new collaboration with the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) of the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (MRMC) and the Astrobionics Program of NASA to develop advanced microsatellite technology.

"The Intelecell is essentially a self-powered, wireless biosensing platform, similar to what is needed for free-flying in-situ biological experimentation", noted Dr Carsten Mundt, CTO of Intelesense. "While NASA needs such a platform for space biological research, collaborating to develop microsatellites in the future to enable low-cost worldwide uplink of sensor data benefits both Intelesense, TATRC, and everyone", added Dr Kevin Montgomery, CEO of Intelesense, "This project extends the extremely remote sensor deployment of the Intelesense network to the next level".

The first satellite, GeneSat, is scheduled to launch in late 2006 and will carry a genetics experiment for NASA. Intelesense was spun off from Stanford University in early 2005 and has corporate offices in Honolulu, Hawaii with research and development offices in Silicon Valley, California and field offices with collaborative partners in deployment zones worldwide.

Current projects range from protecting some of the most beautiful and biodiverseplaces on our planet, tracking emerging infectious diseases to ensure public health, and helping people from around the world connect and interact with each other and better understand their environment and themselves.
