Environmental Monitoring and Public Health Project in Vietnam
09-01-05 -- HONOLULU, HAWAII -- Intelesense TechnologiesTM announced today that it is in negotiation with the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center of the US Army Medical Readiness and Materiel Command for producing a state of the art environmental and public health monitoring network in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
"This contract is to research the links between environmental conditions and public health", said Dr Montgomery, CEO of Intelesense. "The United Nations reported in 2002 that 46% of the people of Vietnam do not have clean drinking water and 80% of human illness presented at clinics may be due to water-borne factors", [UN WWDR2002], "that's nearly 20 million people whose illness is largely preventable. We are excited to be working with the Hanoi School of Public Health, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, University of Hawaii, and TATRC to address this important problem for the people of Vietnam and other developing and emerging countries".
The work will involve the deployment of the Intelesense environmental sensor network (InteleNet), along with integrating public health information daily from the Hanoi School of Public Health. This will shorten the time for public health data collection from over a month to less than a day and will further provide real-time environmental information. Further, the system is also usable for tracking diagnosed infectious diseases, such as avian influenza (bird flu) in real-time.
Intelesense Technologies is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii with Research and Development Offices in Milpitas, California and field offices in Hawaii, California, and Vietnam.
